SPIRIT IN THE FLESH is an exhibition of sculpture, painting, and works on paper curated by Saul Chernick and featuring works by Courtney Puckett, Ben Pederson, and Saul Chernick.

The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin suggests that art does not simply originate from artists—it moves through them. From this perspective, the artist acts as a receptor for messages from a realm beyond perception, what we might call “Source.” Each artist in this exhibition engages artmaking as a form of communion with that source, channeling its dispatches into physical objects in our material world. They move between worlds returning with ideas and forms that are needed here, in our shared reality.

We live in frightening times, we cannot get through a day without witnessing or experiencing cruelty; our senses are bombarded by a caustic overflow of messaging in an all-out war for our attention. The works gathered here offer a form of counter-messaging—embracing beauty and meeting the unknown with curiosity and joy. A current of playful runs throughout the exhibition; a quality that can only be achieved when imagery, derived intuition and dreams, is executed with rigorous precision.
